Learn How To Make A Glitter Shirt with Mod Podge

Earlier this week we have been talking about some of the hot crafting trends of 2012. One trend that I think always remain in style is, glitter. Glitter can go on anything in my opinion. It is a perfect addition to any craft project, and is absolutely a must for any fashion DIY project. Here is a great example of how glitter can turn an ordinary shirt, into something so stylish and chic. I love this shirt. It was created by Stacie over on, Stars for Streetlights. This is a very cool and simple project. All you need is some glitter, and mod podge. Click here to learn how Stacie made this shirt.

Technique Thursday: Letter Stenciling with Martha Stewart Paint

We here at Plaid produce several craft products as you already know, but we also love to help crafters at all skill levels learn and understand how to use different craft techniques. Today we would like to show you how to perform letter stenciling. Stenciling with letters is a very traditional technique that has been used for many years. It is a great way to decorate any surface, and add something extra to any craft project.

Plan the spacing of letters before painting in stencils.

Create a tracing paper template for correct type alignment. For straight lines of type, use a straight edge or level and pencil to draw a guide line. For curved lines following an oval edge, place the oval object on tracing paper and trace a line following the outside curve with a pencil. Then place the tracing paper on top of your surface and position the curved line where you want the type. For circular lines, position a nail or thumbtack at the center of the circle. Loop string around the nail, tie the other end to a pencil, and draw a circle or arc. Place paper template as guide on surface; slip stencil between template and surface, align stencil and tape in place.

Line up the first letter and hold it in place with tape. Mark the registration with pencil. Paint the first letter, then remove stencil. Let dry. Use the registration mark and guide line to place the second stencil. Repeat the process for each letter. Once the paint is dry, erase any guide marks.

A Craft Trend of 2012: The Chevron Pattern

Have you seen this pattern before? I don’t know about you, but I have been seeing this all over the place. I have seen in on several craft and interior sites, and just the other day I even saw it in Target. The name of this pattern is called, Chevron. The Chevron pattern is definitely one of the hot trends in crafting for 2012. Here is a little bit of information about the Chevron patter. It is an inverted V-shaped pattern. This pattern has been around for a long time. The chevron occurs in early art including designs on pottery and rock carvings. Early examples of this pattern can be traced all the way back to 1800 BC. I guess it’s true that trends always find a way to resurface. Below are some examples of the Chevron pattern used in crafts/DIY projects, as well as home decor. We here at Plaid have several projects in the works, that incorporate this pattern. Be on the lookout for those soon. Have you created any recent project using the Chevron pattern?
