This is too cute! Our friends over at Nothing But Country created these Angry Bird pumpkins. This is a great project to re-create, that cost practically nothing. The pumpkins came from the dollar store, and they used various FolkArt paint colors. A great project to get your kids involved with. Angry Birds are such a hot trend this Halloween. We have spotted several creative craft projects, and even Halloween costumes. To see how these adorable dollar store Angry Bird pumpkins were created click, here.

Tuesday Huesday: A Cozy Halloween Room

Decorating for Halloween can come in many forms. You can decorate your porch outside, dress up yourself, or spruce up a room in your home. Well have you ever thought about decorating for Halloween, minus the scary decor? Instead of using ghosts and spider webs, try using a nice Halloween color palette. Incorporate some stencils to add a little touch of creativity to the room. Here is an example pictured above. This room used Halloween colors well, and this palette is very warm and inviting. Try replicating this rooms decor, by using one of our stencils.

This palette was created using FolkArt acrylic paint colors:#450 Parchment, #925 Wrought Iron, #628 Pure Orange, and #433 Terra Cotta

Tuesday Huesday: Decorating Ideas For Halloween

Halloween decor for the home can often time surprise people. Just take a look at this picture above. If someone told you, they were decorating their home for Halloween, would you think it would look like this? Probably not, because most of us only think of Halloween decorating that includes ghosts, blood, and cobwebs. The picture above is just to serve as inspiration to show you that when decorating for Halloween, there are some chic design options. Would you ever think about decorating your home for Halloween, without the ghouls and goblins?

This palette was created using FolkArt acrylic paint colors:#479 Pure Black, # 741 Glazed Carrots, #226 Yellow Lemon, #903 Tapicoa

Make it Monday: Halloween Foot Stool

We recently found a new freelance designer, Trenice Bishop. As you can imagine we are quite busy here, more so than usual with all the holidays coming up. We are so thrilled to have more help. Trenice created a Halloween foot stool, using paint and stencils from the new Martha Stewart craft line. This Halloween foot stool is a beginner level craft that will take about 2 or more hours to complete.

Plaid Supplies Used:

Martha Stewart Paint – 32082 Beetle Black

Martha Stewart Paint – 32057 Mace

Martha Stewart Paint – 32065 Jonquil

Martha Stewart Paint – 32105 Yellow Gold

Martha Stewart Paint – 32059 Carrot

Martha Stewart Crafts  – Bat Adhesive stencil

Martha Stewart Crafts  – Crow Adhesive stencil

Martha Stewart Crafts  – Ghost Adhesive stencil

Additional supplies needed: Sandpaper, Utility paint brush, Fan brush, Liner brush, Flat brush, and Clear spray gloss

 Instructions:

  1. Use sandpaper or a small sanding block to sand the entire stool before applying paint.
  2. Remove any dust or grit left behind from sanding.
  3. Apply one coat of Martha Stewart Paint in Mace to the base of the stool. Let dry for at least thirty minutes to one hour before applying a second coat of paint.
  4. For the stool legs, mix Martha Stewart Paint in Beetle Black, and Martha Stewart Paint in Yellow Gold, to desired sparkle.
  5. Use a Utility brush to paint the legs and underside of the stool.  Apply two coats of paint allowing the stool to dry for at least 30 minutes in between applications.
  6. Let entire stool dry for one hour.
  7. Add water to Martha Stewart Paint in Jonquil and use a fan brush to lightly shade a corner of the stool to create the moon.
  8. Use your favorite stencil, trace or freehand the swirls on top of the Mace base color.
  9. Use Martha Stewart Crafts Adhesive Stencils to add the Ghost, Bat and Crow details.
  10. To create the hologram effect with the ghost, stencil on a ghost using Martha Stewart Paint in Yellow Gold and let dry. Gently peel off the stencil and place slightly to the left or right of the gold application. This time use Jonquil to paint over the stencil. Let Dry.
  11.  To add the abstract pearls, simply dip the end of a paint brush (in the desired size) in the Jonquil Martha Stewart Paint and touch the end of the brush directly to the stool. The “pearls” will get smaller as you continue to create the design. Reload with paint as necessary.
  12. Using the same technique to create the “pearls”, with a smaller brush end to make eyes for the bats, ghost, and crows using Yellow Gold.
  13. Allowing all of the details to dry, use your favorite clear gloss spray to protect the stool and your art work. Be sure to find clear gloss spray that is non-yellowing and has a UV protector.

Teaching Thursdays: Elegant Witch’s Hat Centerpiece

This project was created by Holli Long. To see more of Holli’s work visit her blog, .

I’ve always wanted to paint a witch’s hat for my yearly Halloween decorations.  I found this little baby at Michaels and couldn’t resist!  I decided to use the beautiful new Elegant Halloween trend to paint it.  It’s a quick project, this one taking me just a couple of hours one morning.

I decided to basecoat the hat with Licorice to begin with, but definitely wanted the hat to be glittery silver when I was finished.

I double loaded a large flat brush with Light Gray and Silver Sterling and coated the entire hat.  Every so often, I would pick up a little bit of Gunmetal Gray to add to the mix.

When it was dry I painted three light coats of Silver Extreme Glitter over the entire surface.

I freehanded these swirls with a liner brush, using Metallic Sequin Black.  This paint is thin enough that I didn’t have to add water to it to make these beautiful swirls.

I used hot glue to add the ribbon and bat as embellishments.

Elegant Witch’s Hat Centerpiece Supplies:

Folk Art® Acrylic Colors: 424 Light Gray, 928 Licorice

Folk Art® Metallic Colors: 662 Metallic Silver Sterling, 667 Gunmetal Gray

Folk Art® Extreme Glitter: 2787 Silver

Paper Mache Witch’s Hat, large flat brush, liner brush, orange sheer ribbon, black rick rack, black bat with glittery wings embellishment

Tuesday Huesday: An Elegant Halloween Wedding

Usually when most people think of weddings, Halloween is not the most common time people choose for their big day. Although it may be an uncommon time of year for a wedding to most, many people do get married on or around this holiday. Halloween can be very elegant, and decorations don’t have to include spiders, monsters, or ghosts. Take a look at this reception room, that was decorated for a Halloween wedding. This is very nice, and unique. If you are looking for new and different Halloween decorating ideas, use this room as inspiration to plan an elegant event during Halloween. Do you know anyone who has gotten married on or around Halloween?

We created this color palette using FolkArt Acrylic paints, #938 Licorice, #440 Violet Pansy, # 2480 Metallic Royal Gold, #413 Pink, and # 427 Ivory White.
