These easy to make pencil toppers will bring a smile to any child on their first day back to school. Designed by Plaid Designer, Julie Lewis…the use of simple, kid friendly supplies and bright Apple Barrel® paint makes crafting fun. Here is what you will need to get started:
Apple Barrel® Acrylic Paint – 20502 Yellow, 20504 Black, 21339 Pretty in Pink, Plaid® 8 x 10 Stencil Pack – 28669, Two 1 ½” Styrofoam Balls, Hole Punch, Glue, Pencil, Scalloped Pinking Shears, Scissors, 2mm Foam Sheets – white/pink/green, Wiggle Eyes, Dauber, Flat Brush – 1”, ¼”, #1 Liner Brush or Ultra Fine Black Marker, andPom Poms – Large Black, Medium Red and Small Black
Gather your supplies.
Insert end of small paintbrush in Styrofoam balls and paint both Yellow. Set aside and let dry.
Using ¼” flat brush, paint Black bands around one ball to make your bumble bee.
Use dauber to apply pink cheeks on other ball for daisy.
Use circle stencil as a template and trace circle onto pink foam for whatever size you wish your flower to be for bumble bee topper.
Cut circle out with scalloped pinking shears, punch hole in center and use small scissors to cut between each scallop to create petals.
Use circle stencil to find right size opening that will fit around the Styrofoam ball.
Trace circle onto white foam. Fold in half to cut a slit in center and cut out inside of circle. Cut outer edge of ring with scalloped pinking shears and cut between scallops for petals.
Trace another circle onto green foam. Draw three petals as shown.
Cut out and punch hole in center.
Paint or draw smile on daisy face. Glue on wiggle eyes.
Pull petals over eraser end of pencil. Push head down over eraser and place white petal circle around head.
Use opposite end of small paintbrush dipped in Black to apply dots to red pop pom. Glue smallest black pom pom on for head.
Glue lady bug to head of daisy to finish. Yay!
Draw two small hearts onto white foam and cut out. Glue large pom pom to bee body. Glue wiggle eyes to pom pom.
Glue heart wings to bee. Push pink flower down over pencil eraser.
Push bee down over pencil eraser to finish…yay again! Cute, easy and sure to be the envy of classmates!
