Make it Monday: Lunch Bag Dolly

A must have item for any kid going back to school is a lunch bag. Lunch is a vital meal for kids to have during the school day, and let them do it in style with an eye-catching lunch bag. Meet one of the most attention grabbing lunch bags ever made, Dolly. Debbie Saenz created this adorable and creative lunch bag. She used a combination of fabric Mod Podge and FolkArt paints. Any little girl would be happy to have Dolly join her for lunch! Her initial necklace makes her extra-special, and will make your little one standout at the lunch table. Below find all the supplies you will need, along with the instructions.

Plaid Supplies

Fabric Mod Podge –CS11218, FolkArt Acrylic Paint – 2574 Brilliant Pink, FolkArt Acrylic Paint – 517 Light Peony, FolkArt Acrylic Paint – 509 Sunny Yellow

Other Supplies

Lunch bag, Muslin fabric for face, Fabric floral or other design, 28mm Wiggle eyes, Ball chain key chain, Ribbon, Lace trim, Wood initial, 2” Wood circle, Yarn for hair, Carpet thread, Needle, Black fine point Sharpie marker, Jump ring, Drill or Crop-A-Dile tool, Hot glue, Paint brush, Ruler, Pencil

Instructions

  1. Measure flap of lunch bag or area for face. Cut Muslin fabric and adhere with Fabric Mod Podge.
  2. Measure and cut fabric for dress. Adhere with Fabric Mod Podge.
  3. Draw outline of mouth with pencil; paint with Brilliant Pink. Allow to dry.
  4. Paint wood circle with Light Peony. Set aside to dry.
  5. Paint wood initial letter with Sunny Yellow. Set aside to dry.
  6. Paint polka dots around edge of circle with Brilliant Pink. Set aside to dry.
  7. Gather approximately 20 pieces of 16 inch lengths of yarn. Measure with of face and tie off end “pony tail” sections with carpet thread. Sew tied parts to lunch bag along top of face.
  8. Tie ribbon bows around ponytails. Double tie to secure.
  9.  Attach eyes with hot glue.

10. If desired, make eyelids using scraps of muslin. Adhere to top of eyes with hot glue.

11. Draw eye lashes with Sharpie.

12. Adhere wood initial letter to middle of wood circle with hot glue.

13. Create small hole along top edge of wood circle with drill or Crop-A-Dile tool. Attach jump ring and ball chain to create a small necklace.

14. Sew or hot glue ends of necklace in place on each side of neck.

15. Attach lace and ribbon trims along neckline.
