So I am well aware that in certain parts of the country the weather outside is beginning to get a little cooler, however down here in Georgia, where Plaid is located, it is still quite hot outside. With that in mind I truly believe one can never have enough tank tops, to help keep them cool. I stumbled across this very interesting way to create trendy decorative tops from t-shirts. DIY fashion is such a hot trend right now, and everyone wants to unleash their inner Project Runway, and design their own clothes. Use this example from Annie Spandex, and learn how to created this look or something similar for yourself. She used some easy to find items and FolkArt paint to create these looks. Autumn is fast approaching , and with a new season comes new fashion trends and colors. This year there are several new fall color trends. This fall fashion palette from the Pantone Fall Color Report, is a nice mixture of warm colors with cool metals. The mixture creates an even balance between the tones, and there is also a hint of romance that can be seen in this palette.
Bamboo, a surprising fall hue, brings a warm, exotic flavor to the season. Bamboo is a standout yellow with a subtle green undertone.
Emberglow, a traditional autumnal tone, emanates the warmth of a glowing fire – the perfect panacea to the crisp air of fall. Add a spark with shoes or a handbag in Emberglow, or perhaps a patterned scarf combining purpled Phlox or Deep Teal.
Honeysuckle, adds a bold punctuation point. This playful, reddish pink works with any other color in the palette. Flirtatious and festive, Honeysuckle produces a healthy glow – great for cosmetics and holiday soirees.
Phlox, a magical, deep purple with a hint of mystery, is an outstanding statement when worn on its own.
Cedar, is a versatile, mid-tone neutral green.
Deep Teal, a strong, blue-toned green, suggests ocean depths and the color of the sky as daylight descends into darkness.

We created this color palette using FolkArt Acrylic colors, Lemon Custard # 735, Graffiti Pink #2504, Tickled Pink #319, Violet Pansy #440, Italian Sage #467, Teal #405, Bark Brown #2560, Country Twill #602, Boardwalk Blue #2487, Skyline #2499.

Mirror mirror on the wall, what are the hottest craft supplies of them all? Well, obviously this is an easy question to answer. The new Martha Stewart Paint Line, of course. Check out this project we found online. One of our blogger friends, Michelle at A Little Tipsy, received a sample of some of our new Martha Stewart paint products. When Plaid asked me to rescue a Gallery Glass project that had been stored incorrectly and damaged, I said, “Sure, send it to me and I’ll see what I can do”. When I received it in the mail, I realized that it had been further damaged by the packing material in shipping.
Gallery Glass is one of those products that will stay beautiful, it seems, forever! But it must be stored correctly, wrapped softly in a shiny Mylar-type material and kept away from other Gallery Glass. As you can see in the picture above, this poor sun catcher was stored a little too closely to a project that was decorated with cherries and the two projects became one.
The simple way to fix a slight blemish to a Gallery Glass project is to just cut the damaged area away from the Liquid Leading and refill with paint. This project, however, needed more than just a simple fix, but I decided it would be a great way to show just how easy it is.
Here, I’m using the Gallery Glass Tool Kit cutting tool to carefully cut the window color away from the lead lines used on the project.
It’s very easy, then, to pull the window color from the project surface. Be it plastic, like this project, or glass, if you did a window or vase, for example, the dry color peels away very easily after being released from its bond with the Liquid Lead.
This is what you end up with. It’s good to be very careful not to cut away too much Liquid Lead when you’re cutting away the color but it happens sometimes, and you can always go back in with your leading, if you want, and thicken up the lines. I like to add my colors first, and then, if necessary, I add more of the black lead lines.
Then you just repaint. I wasn’t sure which colors the original designer used to make this project, so I used Ruby Red and the new Autumn color as a contrast.
I added an extra layer of the Crystal Clear window color to the open spaces in the design here. I used the “infinity” method, which is the way I add Crystal Clear to make it look like bubbly glass when it dries. I just paint a figure 8 on its side, over and over again until I fill in those blank areas in a design. A special thank you to Multiplication Rock for teaching me that a figure 8 on its side is the symbol for infinity!
I needed to add the missing Liquid Lead lines here, so, to save myself time, I added them after applying the color.
And, when I finished and was ready to ship this baby back to Georgia, to my friends at Plaid, I used a Stencil Decor stencil blank to wrap it carefully for shipping.
Gallery Glass is a beautiful way to decorate for holidays or seasons. It can be easily stored with your seasonal decorations, if it is packed away with a little extra care. No bubble wrap or tissue paper should touch a dry Gallery Glass project. And, by all means, don’t store them where they can touch. With just a little care, a beautiful project made with Gallery Glass can last you for years to come.

At the end of the summer, I’m getting a Granddaughter! I’m very excited, and looking forward to having a new member of my little family. My daughter registered for her baby shower at Target, and as I was perusing her choices for the nursery, I had an idea. She picked a wonderfully whimsical bed set by Tiddliwinks called, Butterfly Medallion. The quilt looks like this:
Very cute, don’t you think? Well, I thought it would be a good idea to use this as a reference, for color and a little for design, and make something that could accent it in the baby’s room.
I got busy gathering my supplies: Folk Art colors Wicker White, Sheer Blossom, Lemonade, Lavender and Light Lavender, Soft Apple, and Pink, a sanding sponge, tape, transfer paper, and a wonderful Plaid frame with lots of painting room on it! I was ready!
I started by base-coating the entire frame, front and back, with Sheer Blossom. This color is wonderful! It has a very rich consistency which makes base-coating with it so simple! Then, because I wanted to get the feel of the quilt, I sectioned areas off with a little masking tape.
Here, I’m taking the Light Lavender and a little of the Sheer Blossom, and slightly mixing the two on one of the sections of the frame. I used this method on two sections for balance.
Then, with a little water on my brush, I side loaded into the Lavender color and added a shadow along the edges of these sections.
I also made two Wicker White sections that I shaded with the Sheer Blossom. Then, I added a tiny polka dot pattern with a toothpick and my ruler to one of the sections. I simply placed a dot of Pink with the toothpick every quarter inch. It’s a little challenging to keep the ruler straight, but a few well placed markers on the sides of the frame will keep it straight.
On the second Wicker White section, I used quarter inch masking tape and masked off some stripes. I usually place the tape by just eyeballing it, but, if you need a little extra help, make a few measurements with your ruler and mark it with a pencil on either side of your section, and it will be a snap!
Again, using the Pink color, I lightly brushed the stripes with an almost dry brush.
And because I really wanted to incorporate the butterflies of the quilt into this frame, I used some of the wood heart shapes from Plaid to add some dimension to the project. I simply painted the wings, added some details, and then placed them where I wanted them on the frame. I free handed their little bodies with one of my favorite colors, Soft Apple. The antennae are Lavender thinned with a bit of water, and painted with a liner brush.
I added details to the wings with the tip of my paint brush and a liner brush. You can really make them anyway you want, but I’m not the best at butterflies, as anyone who has crafted with me over the years can attest to. This simple method is my favorite!
I used the inside edge of my masking tape roll to lightly pencil in circles on the Light Lavender areas of the frame. Then I took my small round brush and painted some daisies, using the guide lines I made to keep them round and even.
I added thick stem lines with the small round brush, and added some One Stroke leaves with a size 10 flat brush.
And there’s the finished project! A very nice addition to any little girl’s room. I think it will look so cute with her new bedding. I love to add to any decor with projects that coordinate. And it’s so easy to use something like the quilt as reference for colors or patterns. What do you think of this project? Have you ever made a baby themed craft project?
