Tuesday Tutorial: St. Patty’s Day Tabletop Decorations

The month of March is underway and before you realize it, St. Patty’s day will be here. Many plan to celebrate this day for an entire weekend. Are you planning to throw a party? If so, we have the perfect table top decorations for you. Check out these St. Patty’s Day Tabletop Decorations created by designer Holli Long. These decorations were created using Mod Podge and FolkArt Acrylic paint. This is an intermediate level craft that will take up to an hour and a half to complete. All the materials you will need to recreate this project are below, along with their instructions.

Mod Podge Satin CS11272

Folk Art Acrylic Paint – 901 Wicker White, 954 Fresh Foliage

Other Supplies

Medium Flat Brush

1/4″ dowel

2 – 1-1/2″ wood blocks from Lara’s Crafts

2-3-12″ wood blocks from Lara’s Crafts

2-6 x 1″ Smooth Foam discs

1/4″ satin ribbon in white and light green

Recollections™ Green Pinstripe 12 x 12″ paper

Recollections™ Green Pindots  12 x 12″ paper

Drill with 1/4″ drill bit, serrated knife, nail file or soft grit sandpaper, transfer paper, pencil, pencil sharpener

Instructions

** Drill a 1/4″ hole in the center of each top of the large blocks.  Drill a 1/4″ hole through the entire center of the small blocks.

1.  Paint large blocks Wicker White.  Cut dowels to 16″ and paint Wicker White.  Paint small blocks Fresh Foliage.  Let dry.

2.  Cut 12 3 x 3″ squares of Pinstripe paper.  Cut 10 1-1/4″ x 1-1/4″ squares of Pindot paper.  Mod Podge paper to painted blocks as shown.  Set aside to dry.

3.  Transfer shamrock pattern to Smooth Foam Discs.  Carefully cut foam with the serrated knife.  Use soft grit sandpaper or a nail file to smooth edges of the shamrock.  Paint shamrocks Fresh foliage and set aside to dry.

4.  Cut shamrock pattern out of Pindot paper.  Be sure to cut paper about 1/4″ in from pattern lines.

5.  When shamrocks are dry, Mod Podge paper on the front side of the foam.

6.  Using a pencil sharpener, make the tip of each dowel pointed.  When assembling, the pointed tip should be at the top of the project.

7.  Assemble blocks as shown, with dowel in the center.  You can put a little glue between the blocks, if needed, to secure them together.

8.  Loop both ribbons three times around your hand and make a slipknot at one end.  Cut loops at the bottom to make all strands even.  Loop slipknot over pointed end of the dowel, and hold in place with a dab of craft glue.

9.  Carefully push pointed end of dowel into the foam shamrock using photo for placement.

10.  If you want to, you can remove the dowel, add a dab of craft glue into the hole in the foam, and replace it on the dowel to secure firmly.
