Handmade Wedding Inspiration

Hi everyone! It’s Kathryn Thompson here; a writer for Homecrafts, one of the oldest and most reputable crafting websites based in the UK.

This summer, I have been lucky enough to be invited to the weddings of some of my best crafting friends. These weddings will, of course, feature some amazing unique handmade pieces, which will not only show off their fantastic talents, but also add some really personal touches to their special day.

So, for anyone planning their own wedding, I thought I would share some inspiringly beautiful handmade wedding ideas with you. From elegant to rustic, and featuring projects that even the most novice of crafters could attempt.

Save The Dates

These cute save the date cards have been made using funny black and white photos, with the details printed in simple bold colours over the top.  The key here is that less is more.

For a rustic look, use brown or recycled card with simple black handwritten or stencilled text, tied with twine, raffia or gingham ribbon.  The look below could be easily recreated using Plaid’s Simply Stencils – Laser.

 Paper Wedding Flowers

Coffee filters, maps, newspaper – these could all be the start of some totally amazing paper flowers to be used for bouquets, button-holes or table centre pieces.

 Dress

Your wedding dress needs to be uniquely ‘you’ and there is no better way to achieve that than by making your own. The beautiful dress below has been overlaid with handmade crocheted doilies, and I think you get a real feel for the bride’s vibrant personality through her dress creation. The bride also accessorized her own shoes using pretty gems.  You could create a similar look using Plaid No-Sew Iron on Sequins, which can be used to add a little sparkle to any of your wedding outfit.

 Wedding Favours & Place Cards

For the rustic wedding, a beautiful hand-painted pebble collected from a favourite beach, would provide a simple but elegant place setting.

A jar filled with homemade preserve, covered with gingham cloth, would be a perfect favour for a ‘country’ themed wedding.

Or for the wedding favor that keeps on giving, make heart-shaped bird feeders hung with twine.

Alternatively, you could fill stencilled packets with seeds for flowers used in your wedding bouquet (unless of course, your bouquet was made with paper flowers!)

I hope you have enjoyed these handmade wedding ideas, and I hope they have inspired you to create something for your big day.
