Freelance Friday: A Father’s Day Footprint Plaque By Cheap Crafy Mama

Howdy Plaid Crafters! I’m Kate from Cheap Crafty Mama and I am thrilled to be here today to share with you how I made this cute and simple Father’s Day footprint plaque! I am always a sucker for projects that involve my little artist’s hand and footprints. I’m blown away by how quickly he grows and want to remember every step along the way!

I am a former professional decorative painter turned stay-at-home-mom and I am always creating new things. This year for Father’s day we made this adorable footprint plaque. I think it turned out super cute and you will be amazed by how simple it is to make!

You will need:
  • a pre-cut piece of wood (mine is from Hobby Lobby)
  • 1 piece of scrapbook paper (Hobby lobby as well)
  • Mod Podge
  • scissors
  • acrylic paint (I used Folk Art “coffee bean”, “barnwood”, and white)
  • white paint pen
  • paint brush (I love this Martha Stewart Crafts brush!)
To get started, trace the front of the wood panel onto the back of the scrapbook paper and cut it out. Paint a layer of Mod Podge on the wood…
…and stick the paper to it.
Next, paint your child’s foot white and stamp it on the paper. I couldn’t take any pictures of myself doing this because I had to work really fast before he got paint everywhere! I kept him in his highchair so he wouldn’t be able to escape and had a wet rag handy to wipe off the paint as soon as we were done.
Once the footprint is dry you can paint another layer of Mod Podge on top of the plaque. I also painted the sides of the wood brown and dry-brushed on some “barnwood” paint to make it look a little distressed.
When the Mod Podge is dry, the last step is to write the message using the white paint pen. That’s all there is to it, and now you have a cute keepsake for a great Dad!
