Enjoy crafting outdoors all summer long with this fantastic art center. The D.I.Y. giant art easel was not only extremely easy to make but we spent around $48.00 to make it. We used Apple Barrel paint and doors from our local hardware store. Your kids will enjoy the chalkboard on one side, and the painting station on the opposite side. This is an afternoon project and should only take you a few hours to complete.
Supplies You Will Need
FolkArt Chalkboard Paint -Black
Apple Barrel Neon Blue
Apple Barrel Cool Blue
Apple Barrel Neon Pink
Apple Barrel White
2 Un-finished doors
1 6ft 1×1
Collect all of your supplies from your local craft and hardware store.
Lay your un-finished doors flat on the ground and tape off your stripes in the width you would like to see them. We chose a wider stripe. Using the Apple Barrel paint, cover the taped-off areas with two layers of this fast drying acrylic paint.
Paint the other door with FolkArt chalkboard paint. We used three coats of paint to get the desired coverage.
Lay your dried doors paint side facing up. Screw hinges to the tops of the doors using hinge instructions. Cut two strips of 1×1 lumber to the width of your door. Screw the ledge in from the back at desired height. We put the ledge at our child’s waist.
Stand your hinged doors up and attach ribbons to each side to make the easel stable. We used finishing nails and a wide grosgrain ribbon. Nail your ribbon at the same height
as the ledge.
