Everyone needs a little luck – and everyone also needs a “LUCK” banner for St. Patrick’s Day! St. Patrick’s Day is fun and festive, but let’s be honest – we don’t want to break the bank on decorations! “Luckily” this banner was decorated by Plaid designer Julie Lewis using materials we already had a on hand, and the shamrocks were purchased from the Jo-Ann $1 bins. It’s a sweet and simple decoration that anyone can do. Here’s how our banner is made. Gather These Supplies
- FolkArt Fabric Paint – Autumn Leaves, Licorice
- Felt shamrock shapes – we got ours for $1 each at Jo-Ann
- St. Patrick’s Day stickers – $1 at Jo-Ann
- Stencil brush – 1/4″
- Craft knife and mat
- Acetate or cut your own stencil material
- Foam cup (2 3/8” diameter bottom)
- Iridescent sparkle chenille stems
- Scissors
- Stencil tape
- Pencil or pen
- 1/8” hole punch
Here’s everything Julie started with. The shamrocks are such a pretty bright green!
Print letters of your choice out from your computer – you can also use Julie’s selection above (you will need to enlarge 150%).
Tape acetate/stencil material over letters and cut out with craft knife.
Trace bottom of cup onto paper and cut out (this is your template for dots and for letter placement).
Stencil letters onto light green shamrocks in Licorice.
Place circle template down and apply dots with opposite end of brush and Autumn Leaves.
Add sticker to dark green shamrock.
Punch holes in sides of all shamrocks. Cut a 12″ length of chenille stem and wrap around your brush handle. Repeat. Thread ends of the stems though outer hole of ‘L’ and ‘K’ – fashion loop to hang.
Cut approximately 3” lengths of stem and connect shamrocks to create banner. Hang in your home and enjoy!
