Happy Valentine’s Day from all of us at Plaid! Here at Plaid you know what we love – paint! We couldn’t leave you hanging without a Valentine’s project for the big day. I know that many of you love glass painting, so I’m including a glass painted project that expresses your true feelings – it can be for a husband, family member, friend or even a pet! Nothing say I love you like dog biscuits served on a plate, don’t you think? Whomever you are spending the day with, I wish you all the love and happiness in the world. Here’s how to make your own “I Love You” plate.
Gather These Supplies
- FolkArt Enamels – Engine Red, Licorice, Wicker White
- Mod Podge Matte
- Foam stamp with the design of your choice
- Glass plate
- Tissue paper
- White heart doily
- Black marker (not permanent)
- Rubbing alcohol
To prepare your plate, clean back with alcohol. Write “I Love You” message on the front center of plate with black marker.
Turn the plate over and paint within the lines with Licorice (You will be painting the back side of the plate). Allow to dry. Wipe off the front of the plate with a damp paper towel. Use Engine Red to add shadow lines to each letter. Allow to dry.
Add detail dots as show in the picture with Licorice and the end of your paint brush. Paint Wicker White on a smaller section of a corner of the foam stamp and apply to the back of the plate in between each previous stamped design. Reapply paint often. Allow to dry.
Turn plate upside down (The back should be facing you). Apply a light coat of Mod Podge to the front of the heart doily. Lay it over the center of the plate, centered over the “I Love You” letters. Use your fingers to gently pat and smooth the doily being careful not to rip it. Allow to dry.
Paint the entire back of the plate with a coat of Mod Podge. Quickly lay the piece of tissue paper over the plate. Gently pat and smooth down the paper with your fingers starting in the center working your way to the edges of the plate. Allow to dry.
Use sandpaper to “sand off “ the excess paper; sand downward in one direction.
Add a coat of Mod Podge over back of plate.
* Wipe plate clean with a damp cloth. Do not submerge plate in water or put in dishwasher. Note that you can serve food on this plate – because all the paint and Mod Podge is on the back, it doesn’t come into contact with your food. Enjoy your Valentine’s Day!
